my Eat, Pray, Love-ish summer

1. LiveMocha, learn French, maintain and enhance Spanish
2. Consistent Physical Activity: Securing a place to do some yoga (Kundalini, perhaps), bike-riding
3. Guitar Practice (and i bought a violin on a whim/eBay daily deal)
4. WRITING. I'm creating a couple projects for myself in poetry, nonfiction and fiction. Which could be a bit overwhelming but I'll take my time & just try to consistently write everyday. It'll all come together.
5. Reading. This one is a doozy. I have to resist the urge to take the whole Philadelphia Free Library home with me. I have recommendations and things I wrote down that I didn't get a chance to read in college and from random encounters/articles. Gah. One step at a time tho.
6. Oh, and going out every once and a while.
7. Figuring out how to be out of the US by this time next year, if not sooner.

Christmas in August!

So, a couple weeks ago we were cleaning up in the basement and the garage and I discovered that we have a quite sizable collection of records. I immediately decided I was taking some back with me to school. Who cares if I don't have a turntable yet? Haha. I'll be in NY, I'll find one. It took a lil bit of time to ease them into being okay with me taking them but I shall be returning to school with several gems. I've been wanting records & a turntable ever since I interned at WKCR (though I didn't end up getting to DJ due to schedule conflicts...)

Anywho...

I trust in Eargasms induced by the following 78s...

Some stuff I've never heard of from artists I know. Some thangs I'm very familiar with but would love to hear on a record. Lovely. Lovely. Little things like having these records and knowing I gotta keep my eye out for a turntable & the listening that shall follow, all make life so special :]!

AND, my grandma said we might pull out our home turntable to try each record out to make sure it works. Family fun! Haha. Seriously. I'm excited. It's an event. One that has never happened before. Oh yeah. I need something to keep me in delight with the semester I've about to have. Columbia (classes, activities, work, seniorness & future plans) is about to shove its foot up my butt & through my mouth but I'm gonna make it through. Betta believe that.

so, it's that time of year again

when I start to miss Columbia... ew. Haha. I wonder if I would ever miss school if it wasn't in New York. But, as I discussed with a friend briefly yesterday, the pull of school is that it feels like real life. All the relaxation of summer feels like a break from my life. and I'm grateful for it... but New York is where I'm gonna be making good on some big promises I'm making to myself. Definitely, there are goals I have and am fulfilling for the summer, they're just smaller and a lot of that is preparing myself for the fast-pacedness of busy-ness of next year. It's gonna be intense, but I'm gonna come out alive and very well so I'm looking forward to getting to it. Some fears conquered and whatnot, and I suspect I'll be learning more about myself and what I'm capable of. My housing will ease the pain tho I'm sure, big room, two person suite, kitchen, living room and bathroom *suuuhhh-weet!*

That might've been a little vague, but yeah. Anywho, look at this (this song was stuck in my head last Friday, I believe)

because it was pleasant when it showed up on my shuffle:
